In this article, I’m going to show you how to post a video advertisement on FaceBook and Google Plus for maximum impact. The steps I outline here will work for both. I originally wrote this article for people in my Rippln download but these principles can be applied to any post.
Here is an example of an ad I just shared on Google Plus with a Video.
I want to help you to make ads like this. You can do it.
You need a video or a picture in your ad. If it is just text then people may not notice it. Especially people you don’t know well.
I am going to walk you through this step by step. Don’t look at the big picture; instead follow along through each step so you too can make compelling ads on FaceBook and Google Plus.
I got the URL for this video in our Google Plus Group, Rippln Rusty. You have to be a member of my Rippln down line to access that group. You can also get your link from YouTube and I will explain how to do that.
Step 1: Getting the Video Link for Your Post
First I will show you exactly how to get the video link to share.
Once inside the Google plus group, you will see a menu on the left. Click on the “Video for Ads” in the menu as shown in the graphic below.
Once you decide on a video to use look above the video and you’ll see a link. You need to copy that link and paste it into your ad. The arrow in the graphic below shows exactly which URL you need to copy.
You might want to paste it into notepad first for quick reference while you complete the other steps.
The video links should be the very first thing you put in your post. By putting it in first, both FaceBook and G+ will then preview the video in your post. That means people can view that video in your post without going to YouTube. You do not want them to go to YouTube to watch the video so make it easy for them to watch the video on your post. You want them to stay on your post and click your link or ask for an invite.
Let’s recap the steps for getting your video link
- Go to the Google Plus Rippln Rusty group
- Click on Video for Ads
- Grab Your Link
- Paste it into Notepad
You can also go to YouTube to get the link. Rippln has a channel on YouTube that you can visit by clicking this link.
To get your link from YouTube, find a video you want to share. Under the video there will be a “Share’ link. You need to click that link and you’ll see a box with a link in it. Copy and paste that link into notepad.
Step Two: Write Your Copy
Copy is just another word for text. It is usually used in advertising and news articles.
You might say, “I can’t do that. I don’t’ know what to say”. You don’t have to write it. I have sent everyone in my immediate Rippln down line some “canned ads”.
For your general education, people in the business call this a “swipe file.” I used someone’s swipe file for the above ad. You can get my swipe file by clicking here. I usually write my own and people like that. People on social networks like you to be real. Writing your own keeps it real, it adds your personality. I do a mixture of both.
Write your ad in notepad or similar tool. You can use Word or other rich text editor but you may run into problems when you paste into your post.
I do write mine in MS Word but I first paste it into notepad and then copy it again before posting to FB or G+. Word may put special characters into your text and they may not display correctly on social networks.
Step Three: Post Your Ad
Go to FaceBook and Google Plus home pages. Find the “What’s new” box or whatever it is called today.
The first thing you should do is post your video link into the box. As mentioned above, that will preview your video within your post and allow people to watch the video without leaving your post. Sometimes, FaceBook will just not preview. When that happens, don’t post it. Try to refresh the page. You can also try logging in and out of FaceBook. Usually though I just have to wait until FaceBook is working correctly. I come back later. I have never had this problem with G+ though.
Now above your video link add your copy which you wrote in Notepad.
Be certain you include a call to action. In this case either you want someone to click your blitz link if you have one or to ask you for an invite. It is best if you do this more than one time.
If you do not have a blitz link, then ask them to get in touch with you for an invitation. Notice I did that in the first sentence. I made a mistake with this post though. I should have asked them to click that link.
Just above that link I should have said “Click this link to join Rippln”. I could have and do use several alternative calls to action. Sometimes I will say something like “For more information, click this link.” The next time I post that, I will include it as that is a serious flaw on my part.
It is a mistake that most of us make from time to time but that call to action is extremely important. You need to tell people exactly what you want them to do.
If you have an email list, sometimes called an autoresponder the best thing to do is send them to that list. That is what the link in that ad does. If you don’t have an autoresponder, you can get one on a trial basis for 1 dollar. Click here to get your autoresponder. Of course, you can just ask them to send it to you in email but it is better to get that email when they are still interested.
If you’d like to see my published ad, you can do so on Google +. And you’ll see I corrected my mistake. I added a call to action to my post.
That’s it after you have it prepared, hit the send or share button and off it goes.
To recap, you follow these steps as detailed above.
- Get Your Link
- Write Your Copy
- Create Your Post
A Word of Caution
You should not continuously post this kind of thing to your social network. Most of what you post on these networks should be non promotional. In fact, before you do this post at least five messages about anything else. You don’t know what to post? Share another persons post or go to YouTube and find something that interest you and share that. Also just say Good Morning or Good Evening to your friends and followers on your social network. If someone replies, respond.
Most of what you do on a social network should be socializing, engaging with others and giving without asking anything.
On the other hand you don’t want to post your promotions just once either. Most people won’t see it. What I usually do is post as often as I can. Then every few days, I’ll post several advertisements for Rippln.
I wrote a complete article about how to properly market on social media or networks. Rippln is an exception to what I usually do. I will start marketing Rippln the say way I recommend in that article very soon. I am int he process of building a new website for Rippln and once its done, I’ll just post informational articles to my social networks. You can read that article by clicking here.
Something else, people generally need to see the ad four to five times before they will take action on it.
Google+ is a better place to do this as FaceBook wants to limit you to your friends only. However, that does not mean only your friends will see it. If your friend post a comment or likes your post then it will show up in some of their friends news stream as well.
I will write more about this on another topic as it will take several article to fully discuss this. If you have any question, please leave a comment and I’ll do my best to help you with it. If you found this post helpful, then please hit those share buttons below.
If you would like to know more about Rippln please ask in the comments and if you’re ready to join Rippln, then please click here.
